Recently, the company Seagate announced new hard drives, specifically three 32TB series: IronWolf PRO, SkyHawk AI, and Exos. The most affordable among them will be the SkyHawk AI at €603, followed by the Exos at €630, and finally the IronWolf PRO at €732.
As the name of the SkyHawk AI series suggests, these HDDs will primarily be focused on AI work. Specifically, the company clarifies that they will feature an optimized CMR recording architecture for network video recorder (NVR) systems, as well as for security applications at the network edge. Essentially, it is first and foremost a video storage drive, supporting up to 10,000 hours of recording and analytics with workloads that exceed the average performance of standard drives by up to three times.
Seagate notes that the 32TB Exos HDDs will mainly be used for Data Centers. They claim these drives will be the best in their class for capacity and energy efficiency. The areal density is 3 TB per platter, and they come with a 5-year warranty. Officially, they are stated to be comprised of 90% high-quality, time-tested components. Similarly, these are also primarily created for AI applications.
The IronWolf Pro, also endowed with 32TB, will officially offer enterprise-level NAS performance with CMR recording technology. Its firmware, AgileArray, is designed for 24/7 operation. Officially, this series is created for content creators, as well as small and medium-sized businesses, and for local AI workloads.
