Elon Musk commented on Pavel Durov’s post regarding WhatsApp security with just one word: “Truth.”
Pavel Durov is a renowned Russian developer best known for creating VKontakte (VK), the popular social network in post-Soviet countries, as well as Telegram, which boasts nearly 1 billion users. Durov advocates for a philosophy of anonymity and security, and his brainchild, Telegram, is rightfully considered one of the most secure platforms.

Furthermore, Pavel claims that his servers fundamentally do not store messaging data, with communication between users operating on a point-to-point basis. Over the years, Telegram has evolved from a simple chat app into a massive ecosystem featuring news, bots, and trading platforms. However, above all, it is valued for the sense of security it provides.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Pavel admitted that governments in many countries exerted pressure to gain access or install backdoors, but all requests were denied. Telegram utilizes end-to-end encryption (E2EE), meaning even company employees cannot read messages.
Many users wonder how safe it is to use WhatsApp and whether it leaks user data. In a post on X dated January 26, 2026, which garnered over 8 million views in less than 24 hours, Durov wrote verbatim:

“You’d have to be braindead to believe Whats… we found multiple attack vectors.”
The same day, Elon Musk confirmed the post by replying with the word “Truth.”
It remains to be seen how much of this reflects reality. This is merely the opinion of two tech giants.
