Micron report for RAM

Recently, a report from Micron, as part of their quarterly financial results, became known.

To remind you, Micron is among the top 3 largest suppliers of memory chips in the world, and they are also the ones who ceased production of consumer RAM under the Crucial brand.

CEO Sanjay Mehrotra expressed his opinion on this matter, stating that the tough conditions in the industry for the DRAM and NAND chip markets will not decline but, on the contrary, will continue to grow at least through 2026 and beyond.

All of this is happening against the backdrop of them discontinuing consumer RAM production, with many companies abandoning it to focus on the more lucrative segment of AI chips and accelerators.

Thanks to AI technologies, Micron is currently earning more than ever before due to the extremely high demand for specialized server memory. After all, Google, Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft are actively building their own data centers, servers, and platforms for the future development of their AI technologies.

Like many others, Micron has already cut production of consumer RAM by around 50%. In addition, resources like silicon wafers are being diverted to the server segment instead of the consumer one.

Even now, the price for a classic 16GB DDR4 RAM stick can range from €60 to €100. And it will continue to rise, which in theory could lead to price increases of up to 100% on top.

Furthermore, in a statement at the conference, the CEO was quoted as saying: Sanjay Mehrotra – “Over the last several months, our customers’ data center AI build plans have driven a dramatic increase in forecasted demand for memory and storage.”

Essentially, in a market with exceptionally high demand, there is relatively little supply, which allows not only Micron but also other manufacturing companies to sell their products extremely effectively.
